Evaluation

Evaluation is like quality control - finding out whether or not a project has met its intended aims and objectives, and whether or not money has been well spent.

As much work in the cultural and heritage sectors is funded by external organisations, such as the Heritage Lottery Fund and charitable trusts, funders (and lottery ticket buyers) need to be assured that their money is being put to good use.

Evaluation also involves trying to find out what visitors - and non-visitors - really think about an exhibition or event, and requires a range of sensitive techniques to get beyond "It was really interesting."

Clients include: The National Glass Centre; English Heritage; Tyne & Wear Museums; The British Museum; Northumberland National Park Authority; MLA North East; Manchester Art Gallery; Woodhorn Museum and Northumberland Archives.

Evaluation skills training has been delivered to: Woodhorn Museum and Northumberland Archives; Group for Education in Museums, Scotland; Skills Building for the Future (Highlands and Islands); MLA North East for Their Past Your Future 2, Múzeumok és Látogatók Alapítvany (Museums and Visitors Foundation), Hungary.
